Answer one of the following questions:
(1) In contemporary military operations, some U.S. maneuver unit commanders have established networks of informants, in order to gain information to protect friendly forces, and to curry friendly relations with the local population. Assess the potential benefits and inherent risks of this practice. State your recommendation(s) concerning this practice.
(2) The dynamics of the recruiters “pitch” to a potential source employs a number of those present when an interrogator “breaks” a prisoner. Discuss the psychological and emotional methods used, and provide reasons for a good recruitment pitch not to use threats or otherwise harsh measures.
(3) The information age in which we live brings with it enhanced capabilities for individuals to communicate securely without expending great amounts of money, using fairly sophisticated and easily accessible technologies. Describe these capabilities, and how they are being used today for nefarious purposes. Provide recommendations for countering these methods.
