First, I want to share a definition of the term “worldview.” Furdon, author of “Constitutional Government and Free Enterprise: A Biblical Christian Worldview Approach and Emphasis Interactive Notes,” shares with us James Sire’s definition of a worldview: “A worldview is a commitment, a fundamental orientation of the heart, that can be expressed as a story or in a set of presuppositions (assumptions with may be true, partially true, or entirely false) that we hold (consciously or subconsciously, consistently or inconsistently) about the basic constitution of reality, and that provides the foundation on which we live and move and have our being” (Ferdon, 2019). At the time of its founding (1970s), the Religious Right held a Biblical Worldview, as the Christian-conservative coalition encouraged voters to elect politicians who would defend their values: supporting Christian instruction in public schools (that is, praying and creationism); supporting school vouchers and traditional sexual mores and opposition to abortion, pornography, obscenity, along with others perceived threats to the family (C, Joel. “Religious Right -Timeline Movement.”, n.d.). My worldview is very similar to the worldview held by the Religious Right movement. Like the Religious Right, I hold a Biblical Worldview. I believe the starting point for the Biblical Christian is God and His rule: the center of all things is God; God is the final authority; He is ultimate (Martin, 2006). In other words, God is head over every aspect of life. I also believe the Bible is the disclosure of the truth of God and all that exists (Genesis 1:1). Since God is ultimately in control and we are under His rule, I believe we should look to His Word for direction in all affairs. Since God is over every area of life (including government, law, and the development of constitutions), I believe we should strive to implement Biblical teachings, principles, practices, and traditions, like the Religious Right did.
