Linear theories propose that groups go through a series of stages as they develop. Each stage has its own unique challenges, and as the group deals with these challenges it progresses to other stages. You must recognize the different stages to help teams work together and grow stronger as they deal with different issues.

1. Think of an athletic team or a group that you were a member of. Consider your experiences in this group and how the group developed over time.
