Capital punishment is one of the most debated polices of the criminal justice system. Using constitutional, humanitarian, and/or administrative arguments, justify why you support or oppose the use of capital punishment as a criminal sanction. In doing so, discuss all aspects related to your specific argument.
Please keep in mind that I am not asking you to provide all constitutional, humanitarian, and administrative arguments regarding capital punishment. I am just asking you to choose an argument that best supports your particular view and then discuss the pros/cons of that argument; taking care to explain why, in your opinion, the pros for your argument outweigh the cons.
In formulating both original and responsive posts, students
should primarily discuss their own ideas. These ideas, of course, should be informed
by material within the text, as well as other academic sources. Hence, when
developing original posts, it is necessary that students cite (using proper APA
format) at least one source of information other than their textbook. (Please
use both in-text and reference section citing for each source used.) The use of properly cited quotes within any post is perfectly acceptable; however, the use
of excessive quotes may distract from the originality of your post and result
in a lower overall grade. Plagiarism, of course, nets absolutely no grade at
all.

it would simply be: Seiter, R. P. (2020). But I wrote out the full name to help students feel more confident
about getting the right textbook.)

This project will involve each of you interviewing at least 2 members from different parts of the Criminal Justice community (law enforcement, judges, prosecutors, jailers, etc.) in a Texas community. Your goal is to obtain information about the definitions, concepts, and classifications of crimes and penalties for one section of the Texas Penal Code. The Texas Penal Code is available through http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/ (Expand the list of Statues at the bottom of this page and scroll down to Penal Code). You will select a category of offense (Titles 4-11 in the Texas Penal Code) to concentrate on.
You should prepare a list of questions that you will ask to each interviewee before you begin the interview. Suggestions: Why did they choose that career/agency? What type of qualifications? What type of training is required? What is future job out look, etc. Ask about a "most memorable case" that they worked and its outcome.
Using the information collected during your interviews you will write a 3-5 page paper (in MS Word or PDF format only) that gives insight on the definitions, concepts, and classifications of crimes and penalties of the category of crime you have chosen.
This project does not have to be approved by the course instructor before you begin interviewing. If you have any questions/concerns You may contact me-N. Mitchell. Some cases may have to be discussed without using proper names, agencies, etc.. This is both a learning experience and a chance to talk formally or informally with a Criminal Justice Practitioner.
