Pedophilia and Limitations of Research when Studying Paraphilias

In Chapter 3, there was some information about paraphilia that was discussed (see below). Pick one and find a media source or a peer-reviewed journal article that provides further information AND explain the limitations of research when it comes to studying paraphilias.  

1.  Paraphilias are largely male-oriented; but individuals from all races and socioeconomic statuses can suffer from paraphilic disorders.  

2. Most paraphiliacs do not become violent. 

3. Paraphilic acts rarely come to the attention of authorities due to the private nature of the acts, the involvement of strangers, the quick nature of the act, or victims not realizing they have been victimized. 

4. Paraphilias must be distinguished between criminal offenses as language for both are commonly used interchangeably.
