75 word response to this classmate:
Hello Professor and Class!
As a Nurse manager, my role is to ensure patient safety, the safety of my team and to enforce established policy and procedures are followed for current evidenced based practices. If a previously established procedure or policy conflicted with recent evidence, It is my duty to examine the policy and begin collaboration with the care team to update the policy so that it aligns with new research and evidence so that patient safety and increased positive patient outcomes can be ascertained. I would organize a team to work on the policy and delegate out rolls so that together, the team can update the policy and procedure so that it aligned with new findings. To the nurse I would explain the rationale for this team and needed policy change, and thank them for bringing this to my attention. Health care is an ever evolving practice and evidence based practice dictates the evolution of change in these practices.
It is important to update policies and procedures because health care and practices are always changing and evolving due to evidence based practices and research. To ensure patient safety and increase positive outcomes, policies and procedures need to align with up to date evidence and research. This ensure the best continuity of care and ensures the safety of patients and health care staff. When policies and procedures are not up to date one runs the risk of increased PSN events and decreases in patient outcomes. The safety of the nurse is also comprimised. We need to have all procedures up to date with current evidence and research to ensure the highest quality of care.
As a Nurse manager it is my duty to ensure all policies and procedures are up to date and align with up to date evidence based practices and evidence based research to ensure the success of the care team, and the safety of the patients on my unit. Bianchi, et al (2018), offers that leadership needs to operate quickly and thoroughly when certifying procedures as current and consistently review said policies and procedures to keep them current and relevant with current evidence based practices.
