There is a term in prison known as “institutionalized.” In effect, it simply means that inmates have become so familiar and comfortable living inside of a prison, that they are not likely to succeed once released. While in prison, these inmates know the rules. They know the game; how to make things work for them. In prison, they are successful. But once released back into the world, they simply don’t function as productive members of society. Do you believe inmates can become institutionalized? Do you think that the same thing can happen to staff? If being in prison can change someone’s personality, can working in a prison have the same effect? In short, I’m looking for you to compare and contrast the effects of prison culture on inmates and staff.
Students are first required to make an original
post in response to the Discussion Board topic. Original posts should be a
minimum of 450 words and should be substantive in nature. In formulating both original and responsive posts, students
should primarily discuss their own ideas. These ideas, of course, should be informed
by material within the text, as well as other academic sources. Hence, when
developing original posts, it is necessary that students cite (using proper APA
format) at least one source of information other than their textbook. (Please
use both in-text and reference section citing for each source used.) The use of
properly cited quotes within any post is perfectly acceptable; however, the use
of excessive quotes may distract from the originality of your post and result
in a lower overall grade. Plagiarism, of course, nets absolutely no grade at
all.
