A) Looking at events from the mid-1700s up to the present, which trend do you find most influential: democratization, the rise of big government, economic growth, or European dominance of places in Africa? In your answer you must cite evidence from at least two different countries and three different time periods (for example, 18th, 19th, 20th century or 1789, 1848, 2021).

B) How does the recent conflict in Ukraine (beginning in 2014) reflect the history of Russia’s place within Europe since the mid-1700s? In your answer you should offer evidence from the 18th, 19th, and 20th century. If you have questions about the assignment, please ask your TA.
